Love Thy Neighbour is an independent restaurant located in the heart of Bold Street in Liverpool, a street known for loads of unique, independent restaurants and shops. However, Love Thy Neighbour manages to distinguish itself from the rest of the competition. It is a restaurant which specialises in feel good food, from Acai smoothies bowls to all day breakfast, the place has everything you would ever want for the perfect brunch. I've been eyeing up Love Thy Neighbour ever since they were painting the mural outside, so decided it was time to visit.
The whole restaurant is just pretty- there's just no other word to describe it and I think that definitely adds to the whole eating experience- especially if you're social media happy, it screams relaxed, fresh and cute. I ordered an Acai smoothie bowl (£6) and the Chickpea pancake with hummus, avocado and confit cherry tomatoes (with the tomatoes on the side because I have a passionate hatred for tomatoes, I probably ruined the beauty of the dish, but it still looked great without!) which was also £6.
Taste-wise both dishes were flavourful and filling, the smoothie bowl especially so! I would definitely recommend a trip and for the price you do get your moneys worth, which is not always the case with nicely plated food (Check out their Facebook page for a peak at their menu here!).
However, this is a food design blog so I'm going to be talking more in depth about the plating of the dishes. First off, the smoothie bowl. Iconic Instagram food. I see amazing looking smoothie bowls on the regular on Instagram so the plating of this dish doesn't exactly stand out from that crowd, yet that's not a bad thing... the combination of the bright Acai smoothie with the desicated coconut, fresh berries, mint and granola is the perfect combination of textures, shapes and colours with the plain white bowl compliments the dish. There's a reason this dish is popular on Instagram and that's because it's amazing to look at!
Secondly, the chickpea pancake with hummus, avocado, spinach (minus the confit tomatoes). I feel as though I can't give a 100% accurate opinion of the plating as I didn't have the tomatoes on the dish, however the rustic blue plate would of complimented the red and yellow tomatoes perfectly, as well and the combination of greens with the neutral coloured foods, it looks healthy, pretty and the portion adds to the rustic, natural but modern theme of the restaurant as it does not look too perfect and polished, yet you can tell it has been stylised and isnt just slopped onto the plate.
Overall I would recommend visiting Love Thy Neighbour if you're in the area, it's decent priced, independent and great for your Instagram feed.
